Kelsi: One week later
It had been a week since I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. I thought I would be feeling better, but I wasnât. It seemed like I was getting worse. To make matter worse, Trent was acting stupid. The first few days I was sick, he waited on me hand and foot. He also cooked for me and made sure the house was clean.
After the third day, he started acting like he was annoyed with me. Whenever I asked what his problem was, he told me not to worry about it. I knew if we didnât take a break from each other soon, things would go left.
âBae, you can go hang out with your friends for a while. If I need anything, Iâll call Janell.â
âYou sure?â
âYeah, Iâm sure.â
Without a second thought, he grabbed the keys and headed out the door. Part of me felt sad that he left like that. If he was sick and needed my help, I wouldnât hesitate to stay with him. Guess that showed how different we were. While he was gone, I ordered some food from American Deli and had DoorDash to deliver it. American Deli was my favorite restaurant.
While I waited for my food, I decided to get a bath. Soaking in hot water always made me feel wonderful. I stayed in the tub until my DoorDash app said my food was close. Since I was sick, I put for the driver to leave it at the door.
After eating my food, I took my meds and went to bed. I wasnât sure how long I was sleep, but I woke up to kisses on my cheek. It was Trent.
âHow you feeling, baby?â he asked me.
I looked at the clock and realized it was only 8 p.m. I was shocked that he was in this early.
âIâm OK, I guess. What you doing here?â
âI live here! What you mean?â
âI didnât mean it like that. Iâm shocked youâre here this early.â
âI needed to talk to you about something.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
âI lost my job.â
âWhat the hell? How?â
He told me his supervisor told the big boss that he didnât get his excuse about him being off for a few days. Therefore, he had been listed as a no-call, no-show for the days he had been out.
âThatâs some bullshit!â
âI know! Iâm sorry, baby. Iâll find another job soon.â
âYeah, I donât doubt that. I just hate you lost your job because of me.â
âDonât blame yourself, baby. I would do it over again if it meant taking care of you.â
âIs that why youâve been so moody?â
âYes. I was trying to figure out how I was going to tell you. KO said he would help me.â
I told him everything would be OK. Our bills were paid right now, so I wasnât worried about anything. Within a week or two, he would be back working, and everything would be OK. At least thatâs what I thought.
